The need for ship operators to be seen by Charterers (e.g. Oil Majors) and the public as being capable of successfully managing the media component of any casualty involving loss of life or pollution is crucial to the corporate future well being. Effective media response will also help maintain the co-operation of government agencies and public interest groups during the implementation of an Emergency Response Plan. Consequently, the ability to deal with the media in a comprehensive manner is a core element of any successful management team.
